自身の考えを貫き通すこと。
努力、根性、誠実。
To keep own idea to the last minute. Effort, spirit, and sincerity.

いわゆる美徳とされた、日本人の価値観。
しかし、時代は流れる。
The Japanese regarded these as virtue. However, the times go by.

今の自分の自身の考え。
貫き通そうと思う自分の考え。
それは「時代に合わせて自分の考えを変えること」
刻々と変わる蛇の姿勢のように。
The thought of present own of me. My thought to keep to be able to continue. It is “changing my thought according to a time.” Like the posture of a snake changing every moment.

矛盾するけれど、これ、意外と大切なのではないだろうか。
I think that this is unexpectedly important though it contradicts.

ヘビで太陽をバックにした逆光写真も撮ってみたいと思っていた。きっとチャンスはこれからもあると思うのだけど、日本の昼ヘビは地べたにいる事が多いので太陽バックの写真は難しい。
I thought that I wanted to take it of the backlight photograph of the snake that backed the sun. Hereafter, I will surely have the chance. However, it is difficult for me to take the photograph of the snake that backs the sun because there are a lot of the snake that acts in the daytime of Japan on ground.

コンクリ地面からの照り返しでの逆光写真は面白みを感じないのだけど、濡れた地面は反射が均一じゃないから面白いです。撮る人間はドロドロになりますが。
I do not feel interest in the backlight photograph of the reflection from concrete ground. However, it is interesting in me because wet ground doesn’t reflect uniform light. Though man who takes the photograph becomes muddy.

跳ね水が逆光を受けて、火花のように散っていました。
Splash water caught the backlight and was scattered like a spark.

ヘビはそのほとんどが、私が近づくと逃げていきます。
When I approach, the most sanke escape.

ところが時々、アオダイショウでは「でん」と構えて動かないやつもいます。
However, there is sometimes an individual from which it doesn’t run away either in Japanese ratsnake.

アオダイショウの「大将」は、大きなヘビという意味合いもあると思うのだが、こうした堂々とした態度も「大将」なのかもしれない。
Japanese ratsnake is called “Ao daisyo” in Japanese. “Ao” means blue or green. When I am called by one word, “Daisyo” is called “Taisyo”. “Taisyo” is a word to mean a general. “Taisyo” is named concerning a big snake, but it may be that such a dignified manner is an origin.

ヒバカリは水辺の環境に好んで生息している。
Japanese keelback inhabits the environment of the waterside willingly.

自身が水分を多く必要とするから水辺に多いというのも理由だと思うが、食べている動物であるカエルやミミズが湿った環境に多いからという理由が大きいので水辺に生息しているのだと思う。
Because themselves need a lot of water, I think that it is a reason that there is many in the waterside. However, I think that they inhabit the waterside because there are many reasons in the environment where a frog and the earthworm which are an animal becoming the bait got wet.

ヒバカリはとても小さなヘビで、50cmを超える個体はかなり稀。同じ水辺を好むヤマカガシやシマヘビと何らかの競争を避けるために、朝昼よりも早朝や夕方、日没後に行動していることが多い。
Japanese keelback is a very small snake, and there are considerably few individuals more than 50cm. The Japanese keelback tends to act in the morning after sunset or in the evening in an early morning from the noon to avoid the struggle for existence with Tiger keelback and the Japanese four lined snake liking the same waterside.

水辺で生活すると、極端な例でいえばアナコンダのように重い体重を水による浮力で軽減し、巨大化してほかの動物から
襲われるのを防ぐこともできる。
The snake living in a waterside reduces the heavy weight by buoyancy like an anaconda and can prevent what they become gigantic, and is attacked by other animals.

でもこのヒバカリは、目立たないように小さく、目立たないような時間帯に行動することで今日まで生きて来ることができた。生き物の、生き抜く戦略はいろんな思惑があって面白い。
But this Japanese keelback made a body small , and  chose that they acted in time when they were not outstanding, to survive it until today. The strategy that the creature survives has various expectations and is interesting.

日本はとても南北に長い国です。そして大陸ではなく、島国なので、同じ生き物が住んでいても各地で独自の遺伝形質を持ったりします。アオダイショウは､その中でトカラ列島の口之島から北海道まで生息しています。
Japan is the country which is very long in the north and south. And a country is an island not a continent. Even if the same creatures of lives in various places, they have an original genetic trait in various places. Japanese rat snake (Elaphe climacophora) inhabits from Tokara-islands Kuchinoshima island of the subtropical zone to Hokkaido of the subarctic zone.

日本の動物分類学も、特に爬虫類、両生類では細分化が進んでいて、今まで同種とされていた生き物が別種になったり、別亜種になったりしています。おそらくは、これから研究が進むと、目では識別しきれない分子レベルの違いなどから、さまざまな違いがわかっていくでしょう。
Subdivision advances to the Japanese animal taxonomy with reptiles and amphibians in particular. A creature considered to be the same kind becomes the another kind or the other subspecies so far.Perhaps it will be understood various differences from the differences of the molecule level that I cannot distinguish with the eyes when a study advances from now on.

このアオダイショウは、2008年に私が最初に出会ったアオダイショウ。北海道のアオダイショウの一部はとても色のくすみが少なく、ライムグリーンやスカイブルーと表現するにふさわしい個体が見られます。私の推測ですが、ヘビは同じ種類でも北部、あるいは高山帯に住む個体群は色彩変異を多く持つものと思います。（顕著なものは、アオダイショウ・シマヘビ・ジムグリですね）
This Japanese rat snake was the snake which I came across first in 2008. The part of Japanese rat snake of Hokkaido has little blackness, and lime-green and a sky-blue individual are seen. I guess, as for the snake, the individual group that lives in the northern part or the alpine belt has a lot of color mutations of the same kind though. (The remarkable ones are Japanese rat snake, Japanese four-lined rat snake and Japanese forest rat snake. )

ヘビが大好きな私が、ヘビの少ない寒い地域に住んでいるのは残念なことですが、種数や個体数を超えた魅力を、その土地のヘビに最近感じられるようになりました。（＾＾）
I love snakes. As for me, it is regretably thing that I live in the cold area with a few snakes. However, recently, I came to have the snake felt the charm that exceeded the
number of seeds and the number of individuals. (:

同じアオダイショウでも、性格に違いがあります。たとえ図鑑におとなしいと描いてある種類でも、ガンガン咬んでくる個体もいるんです。人間と同じように個体差が激しいです。
There is a difference in the character same Japanese rat snake. There is an individual violently bitten even in case of the kind described it is obedient in the picture book, too.
The individual difference is as intense as man.

このアオダイショウは、ものすごい神経質でした。そしてものすごく咬みました。逃げることを忘れ、ずっと私に咬み付いていました。
This Japanese rat snake was terrible nervous temperament. She was forgotten to run away, and was bitten and had taken side with me for a long time.

口をあけて威嚇するのは、日本では実は毒のない蛇であることがほとんどですね。
In fact, it is most that it is a snake that the mouth is opened and threatens that doesn’t have the poison in Japan.

しかし、威嚇と言う姿は迫力のあるもので、私もかなりひるむことが少なくありません。

私は、ヘビの種類が多い亜熱帯の沖縄県に行くのが好きです。8種類のヘビが生息する東京都も好きです。以前、北海道のオホーツク地方に転勤になったとき、ヘビが4種類しかいないということにつまらなさを感じました。
I like going to Okinawa of the subtropical zone with many kinds of the snake. I like Tokyo where 8-kinds of snakes inhabit. I felt a triviality in only 4-kinds of snakes inhabiting when I was transferred to the Okhotsk district of Hokkaido, before .

でも、寒い亜寒帯の北海道に来て、新たにヘビについて学ぶ事がたくさんありました。この寒い地域では冬越ししやすい温泉周辺に密度高く生息するとか、餌となる動物の生息環境がヘビの生息環境に完全に合致しているとか｡｡｡
But I came to Hokkaido of the cold subarctic zone, and there were a lot of learning it about a snake newly. As for the snake, density high lives around the hot spring where the winter is passed easily in this cold region. Moreover, the native habitat of the animal that becomes snake’s food completely corresponds to snake’s native habitat. Etc.etc…

北海道には5種類のヘビがいると言われています。（シロマダラは奥尻島と札幌近辺で記録があるだけですが）実際に、シロマダラを除く4種類のヘビたちと出会ってみると、それらは東京都と同じ種類と言われていますが、全く違う印象を受けるような個性ある個体群に出逢う事ができました。
It is said to be it in Hokkaido 5-kinds of snakes. （We have a record in Oriental odd-tooth snake in Okushiri Island and the Sapporo neighborhood.） When I met 4-kinds of snakes except Oriental odd-tooth snake, they were said the same kind in Tokyo, but the personality that I had an impression different at all was able to really meet the population that there was.

そして、私の興味はヘビの「種」を撮ることから、ヘビの「個体群」、そして「個性」へと興味の幅が広がりました。たくさんヘビに出逢える沖縄県、いろいろヘビを身近に感じた東京都、そして新たなヘビの魅力に気づかせてくれた北海道に私は感謝しています。
And, my interest has extended from taking snake’s “the kind” picture to snake’s “Individual group” and “Individuality”. I thank Okinawa that can come across a lot of snakes, Tokyo that felt various snakes close and Hokkaido which I may have reminded the new charm of snakes.

彼らへの出逢いを期待して春を待ちきれず、今日はシマヘビをアップです。とてもハンサムな個体でした。
I cannot wait for spring in hope of an encounter to them and do post of the photograph of Japanese four-lined snake today. He was a very handsome.
