野生のゴマフアザラシは、警戒心がやや低い。海の獣全般的に言えるが、意外と人間を怖がらず、好奇心でこちらを観察することも多い。
Wild Spotted seals are not cautious. Although it can say to marine mammals whole target, they are not unexpectedly afraid of man. Rather, they observe man by curiosity in many cases.

リラックスしているゴマフアザラシを見ていると、寝ているようで意外と動き回っている。しかし、陸上では間抜けな動きが多い。この個体は、ひげを水の中に入れたまましばらく寝てしまったのだろう。ひげに氷の塊がくっついてしまって邪魔そうだ。
When I watch a harbor seal, they are relaxed and seem to sleep, but move unexpectedly. However, they have much foolish movement in the land. This individual might slept for a while with the mustache put in water. A lump of the ice sticks to the mustache and seems to be obstructive.

邪魔ものが取れた後は、またゆっくりくつろぎだす。しかし、周りの音や動きには敏感に反応し、首をもたげる。呑気なようでいて、やはり野生動物なりの警戒心を持ってはいるようだ。
He begins to make himself at home slowly again after an obstacle was removed. However, he reacts to a sound and the movement of the circumference sensitively and raises a neck. It seems that he is so that he may be easy, and he has the wariness of a wild animal too.

つまり、アザラシは人間が海に飛び込んでまで襲ってこないことを知っていて、至近距離ながらも、自分たち有利な間合いを知っているのだ。
In other words the seal knows that we do not attack it a human being jumping into the sea. And he know oneself advantageous distance even if they are close range with us.

Abashiri Winter2009

I went to Abashiri. East from Abashiri has many ports. I looked for seals. But I could find only 3 seals…

冬のオホーツク海はやや荒れ気味

以前はよく、天気の荒れた冬に網走以東の港を巡って鳥を探して回った。しかし、それほど鳥運もなく、あまり当たりだったことは少ない。けど、時々見るアザラシが面白かった。

もともと運転は好きなので、疲れるけどおもうよりは負担にならない。

今回は、何か海棲哺乳類がいればいいなと、知床の付け根、ウトロから網走までアホのように港を制覇してきた。

一部の港はもう漁に出ていないから、雪積もってて、車で入れない。小さな乗用車だとスタックしそうだったけど、そこは「Konjoh」と「Doryoku」で乗り切ってみた。

鳥はあまり見ないとはいっても、普通にいろいろはいる。写真のオジロワシを筆頭に、オオワシやカモメ各種、そんでたぶんワタリガラスらしきシルエットを見ながら港を巡る。

意外に交通量は多いので、急停車して路肩に車を停めて写真を撮るということも難しいので、移動中は運転に専念。。。ワタリガラスはゆっくり見たかったよ。同じ場所で何年か前にも見たけど、警戒も強いし、何故か常に飛んでる。

オオワシとデレデレ遊びながら飛んで尾根伝いに消えやがる。くそー。。。ああ、いかん、運転運転。。

ウミガラス冬羽

ただのウミガラスの冬羽は久しぶりだ。多く見かけるのは、ハシブトウミガラス。これは結構港にも入っているし、今回も5羽くらい見れた。

対してただのウミガラスはあんまり見ない気がする。冬羽としては、ウミガラスの方が綺麗だな。

ハシブトウミガラスが珍しく5羽くらい群れてたので、適当に写真撮っておいたら、3羽は明らかに大きさが違うのにあとで気がついた。（写真ここに載せてないけど）どうもウミスズメ類だったみたい。どんだけ適当だよ。。。（鳥観察眼）

まあ、でも、基本的には海に浮いてて、ただの白と黒の鳥ですよ。

しかし、稚内や佐呂間のようにアザラシが常駐している場所ではないようなので、見つけるのもなかなか時間がかかる。今回はウトロから西へ向かってきたが、最終地点の網走でようやく蠢く物体を見つけた。

アザラシは毛が乾いたり毛並みの方向によって全く違う斑紋に見えたりする。

このゴマフアザラシも、一瞬クラカケアザラシのようにも見えないでもないけれど、腹側とかよくみるとちゃんとゴマがある。

それにしてもその後ろ足の緊張感のなさは、一体何なんだ？こいつはいろんなポーズでヨガをしていた。ヨガを極めなさい。

I like taking pictures of Seal. I become melancholic in autumn. However, I go out the desire to go out when the seal comes from the north.

ゴマフアザラシ再び

アザラシを撮るのは結構好きだ。あまり写真を撮る動物のジャンルを区切ろうとは思っていないけど、アザラシの仲間は、撮っておきたい動物のひとつになりつつある。

秋冬は、どうもテンションが上がらない。でも、アザラシが来るようになると遠くでも行ってみようと思うようになってくる。

アザラシは海に住む哺乳類なので、海の生き物を食べている。そのため、増えると人間と、漁業と軋轢が起きやすい。ただ、撮るだけで楽しい、可愛いだけ伝わらないよう心掛けておきたいかな。ちょいと、アザラシがライフワークに加わった気がして嬉しい感じ。

鳥の関係は、最近は意欲的に撮ってないな。いろいろ、撮りたいものが変わったりするだろうけど、何が対象でも、スキがあれば撮っておきたいかな。

Seal Heaven

I went Northern limit of Hokkaido to take seals photo. I encountered a snowstorm, and I was serious on one’s way to there. There were the seals a lot there. I was very cold, but photographed a seal for a while from the daybreak.

今回は北海道最北の稚内でアザラシを撮影しに出かけた。途中、留萌というところで猛吹雪に会い、視界が完全にホワイトアウトするなど、難儀な状態になったが、7時間近くかけて目的地に着いた。

夜明けの港

いつもここに来る時は、午後になってしまう。冬の午後というのは、あまりに日が低く太陽光線は赤い。夏の間もいろいろ照り返しが強いなど問題があるので稚内で写真を取るには夜明けから朝の間がいいのではないかと今回は夜明け前に着くように行ってきた。

夜明け直後は、あまり視界も良くなく、三脚とレリーズは必須。ゴマフアザラシも大量に寝ているのが確認できた。

夜明けの時間では、ゴマフアザラシもまだ不活発。なので1頭ずつチェックしてみる。体の大小的には、いろんな大きさがあるが、いわゆる標準体形のメスっぽい成獣がほとんどで、そのまわりに幼獣がちらほら。

最初、この幼獣にまぎれてワモンアザラシなどいないか探してはみたものの、わかる限りではゴマフアザラシばかりだった。

そして少しだけいるオスっぽい成獣。こやつらはとてもでかい。体型だけみるとアゴヒゲアザラシのようにもみえるが、どうみても顔はゴマフアザラシ。

幼獣も、成獣も別種を探してみたが、いないみたいだった。

クラカケアザラシなどは斑紋でわかることもあるが、濡れていたり、乾いていたり、斑紋に個体差が大きいので斑紋だけでゴマ、ゼニガタ、ワモン、そしてアゴヒゲ等を見分けようとするのは難しいと思う。やっぱり最終的には体と頭のバランスと、顔つきに尽きると思う。

アザラシのみなさん、本当にどうもありがとうございました。

三脚を据える手もかじかむという感覚を越えて痛い。指先は紫になってくるので、さすがにヤバいと思い、時々車に戻って手だけ温める。
却って、海の中にいるアザラシたちの方が暖かい環境にいるのかもしれない。

一通り、撮影させてもらって、日も上がってきて、日光が赤みを帯び、逆光に代わってきたので引き上げようかと考え始めた。

海中に浮いているアザラシはやや近くて撮りやすいのだけどみんな同じカットになりやすい。どこまで撮るか微妙なところ。かといって、テトラポットの上のも微妙。やっぱ氷の上がいいですよね。

いずれ船で沖に出てみようと思う。

このあと、宗谷岬を越え、オホーツク海側を東に進んだ。

途中、港や岬から動物を観察したが、夜中の天気とは打って変わり、穏やかな感じになってしまったのであまり鳥も海獣も見れなかった。

ゴマフアザラシは結局全部で100+、その他海鳥のハシブトウミガラスやコオリガモなどゆっくり見ることができたが、海にぽっかり浮いてる写真しか撮れなかった。

全行程800km。一日で運転した距離としては新記録かもしれない。

私がカメラを構えるときは、少なからず緊張している。撮られる動物も、緊張している事が多い。ゆったりした姿の写真を撮りたいから、これはちょっと悲しいかな。しかし、この個体は極寒の海で、私一人が緊張しているのをよそに、海に浮いていた。
When I hold a camera, I am tense a little. It is often that the taken animal is tense. Because I want to take the photograph of a relaxed figure of the animal, this is slightly sad for me. This individual was floating in the coldest sea. On the other hand, only I felt nervous in the coldest coast.

他の個体も観察したが、どうやら陸地でくつろぐのとは違い、海中にいるときのリラックスは鼻を空に向けて突き出すポーズをしているときのようだ。
目線を落としてこちらを見るときには、いくら緊張感の無いゴマフアザラシとはいえ一瞬の緊張が走っている。鼻を突き出していたこの個体はこちらを見ることも無く、そのまま背面から海へと潜っていった。
I observed the other individuals, but, unlike making itself at home somehow or other on land, the relaxation when there is it openwater seems to be time doing a pose to push out a nose somehow or other for the sky. When it loses a glance and watches me, Spotted Seal (Phoca largha) without the feeling of strain usually, the strain of instant feels. This individual pushed out a nose and, without watching me, just crept from the back to the sea.

Last part

The place that can watch a seal is very far from the place where I undergo medical treatment. I thought about physical condition and avoided the lodging and faced observation in a day. However, it is toilsome to go and return in one day to me.
Of the seal while photographed it, after all I was very cold.
The pains of my body increase by cold, too. However, I liked claspers with the marine mammal very much, and it was softened because I was absorbed in those photography because I was various. By the latter half of this trip, I was able to watch Rough-legged Hawk and Common Redpoll, too. I met a crowd more than 200, and I was able to enjoy the seal, too. However, I was not able to go out of the considerable fatigue and burden for three days after having returned to the stop.

療養している場所から、アザラシの見える場所はものすごく遠い。しかし、体調を考えて宿泊は避け、日帰りで臨んだ。日帰りするのも、ものすごいしんどいが…。

アザラシの撮影中は、やはり皮膚をつんざくような寒さ。寒さで体の痛みも増加する。しかし、自分は海獣では鰭脚類はかなり好きで、多少夢中になることでいろいろなことから和らげられた。

この旅の後半は、ケアシノスリやベニヒワも見れ、アザラシも200頭を超える群れにも逢え、楽しめた。

1頭1頭、他種が紛れていないか確認したが、体格の大小はあるものの、体型、顔貌に変わったものもいなく、クラカケやワモン的な体紋個体も見られなかったため、全てゴマフアザラシと思われた。

しかし、帰ってからは相当な疲れと負担から3日間、家から出る事が出来なかった（＾＾；

近いです。人馴れしてしまっているゼニガタアザラシでした。2007年7月初め、このゼニガタアザラシで事件が起こりました。いろいろあるので、地名は伏せました。事件は、このゼニガタアザラシが人を咬んで、引っ掻いて怪我を負わせたというもの。しかし、報道の内容はショッキングなものでした。珍しいもの見たさに、このゼニガタアザラシを観察に来た人々の中には、このアザラシを足で蹴ったり、子供をまたがせて写真を撮ったり、棒でたたいたり。
It is near. This photograph is Common seal (Phoca vitulina). This Common seal hardly fears the person. This Common seal caused trouble at the beginning on July, 2007. This case was the one of having made this Common seal owe the injury scratching and biting the person. I concealed the name of a place of which I took a picture this Common seal. The content of the news was very shocked. This seal seemed to be kicked by the foot, to be stepped over, and to have beaten with the stick by a few people who had come to observe this Common seal.

そもそも、自分も、この距離で写真を撮ることは、対野生動物を考えると全くいい事ではありません。野生動物とは適当な距離を持たなければ、いつか事件が起こります。普段、野生動物との付き合いが無い人にとって、この距離で見る事が出来るのはこの上ないチャンスで、つい触りたくなる気持ちもわかります。しかし、全く野生動物とかかわりの無い人にとっては、このアザラシを犬や猫を扱うように触りたがってしまいます。きっとそんな中で起こった事件だったのでしょう。
To begin with, it is not a thing good compared with wild animals that I also take the photograph by this distance. This case happens with wild animals and the person some time without a suitable distance. It is a chance that can see the seal for the person who doesn’t have wild animals and contact in this distance usually further. It wants inadvertently to touch and I also understand becoming it feelings a little. However, it seems to be thought that the person who doesn’t have wild animals and contact is a person that this seal doesn’t have the change with the dog and the cat. It would be the case that happened in what the people were going to be involved in with a wild animal willingly.

適当な距離を持つこと。どうしてこのアザラシの方から出来ないのでしょう？もしかしたら、過去に人間に保護されて、人馴れしているのではないかという説が流れていました。それであれば、人間のほうが、適当な距離を持ってあげるようにしたいですね。それにしても、ペットを扱うように触りたくなる部分にはまだ理解が出来るものの、寝てる生き物を、蹴りますか？棒でたたきますか？集団心理、興奮状態、いろいろ理由が重なってやったことかもしれませんが、理由なんて動物は理解できません。反省しなくてはならないことだと思います。私を含めて。
Why may not this seal have suitable distance with a person? There was the rumor that this seal was protected in the past by a human being, and become accustomed a human. A human being must have suitable distance if so. Still, do you kick a sleeping creature? Do you swat it with a stick? It may be that group psychology, an excitement state, various reasons occurred at the same time, but the animal cannot understand a reason. I think that it should reflect. Including me.

日本ではアザラシが見る事のできる場所は北海道の一部くらいです。見られるアザラシの多くはゴマフアザラシと、ゼニガタアザラシです。
The place where what the seal sees can be done in Japan is few. And, many of seen seals are Spotted Seal, and Common Seal.

オホーツク地方に5年以上住みました。冬が来るたびにアザラシに会いに行きました。オホーツク周辺の港にはゴマフアザラシがよく来ています。ある日、体の小さなアザラシがいました。ゴマの子供かな？と思いましたが、何か気になったので、
そのアザラシの写真を撮りました。
I lived in the Okhotsk area in Japan and five years passed. It went to the seal to meet whenever winter came. Spotted Seal comes to the port well. One day, there was a seal with a small body. Is he a child of Spotted Seal? I thought. And, the seal’s photograph was taken. When I returned to the house and the photograph was seen in detail, the seal was Ringed Seal.

家に帰って写真を詳しく見ると、そのアザラシはなんとワモンアザラシのようでした。とても会いたかった種類のアザラシでした。
It was a kind of seal that had wanted to be met very much.

最初から判っていれば、もっと沢山写真を撮ったのに。出会いとは意外にあっけないものですね。
More a lot of photographs had been taken if it understood from the beginning. Meeting is the unexpectedly disappointing one.
