Disappearance in Okhotsk

オホーツク地方の海は冬はとても厳しい。気象が不安定になれば、港は凍るし流氷も押し寄せる。そして激しく海も荒れる。
The sea of the Okhotsk district is very severe in winter. If the weather becomes unstable, the port is frozen, and the drift ice flocks. And the sea is stormy intensely, too.

このハシブトウミガラスが何故死んだのかはわからない。でも、気をつけなければならない死因はいくつかある。
Why this Brunnich ‘s Guillemot died is not understood. However, there are some causes of one’s death that should take care.

ひとつは、海に流れ出した原油などが体に付き、羽が乾かずに凍死する場合。海洋の油汚染は人為的なものがほとんどで、問題となっている。
この個体には油の付着はないように思えた。（頬のあたりの汚れは血液染みのように感じた）また、周辺にも油膜、油の塊はみられなかった。
When the one gains the crude oil which began to flow in the sea to a body and freezes to death without a feather drying. Artificial things are often found, and the marine oil pollution becomes the problem. This individual did not seem to have the adhesion of the oil. In addition, the oil slick, the lump of the oil were not watched in the outskirts either.

もうひとつは、鳥インフルエンザでの感染死。これは外見からの判別は難しいと思われる。むやみに触ることは避けた方がいい。
Another one in the case of the infection death for the avian flu. It seems that the distinction from appearance is difficult as for this. I was thoughtless and had better avoid that you touched it.

死にはいろいろな原因があるが、死体はいつの間にか消える。カラスが食べ、キツネが食べ、カモメが食べる。これが何故死んだかなどは捕食者には、わからない。しかし、油であれウイルスであれ、食べればその動物に健康被害を及ぼす恐れはある。
There are various causes for death, but the body disappears all too soon. A crow eats, and a fox eats, and a gull eats. A predator does not understand why this died. However, there is the fear to give the healthy damage to the animal if they eat even if it is oil, and it is a virus.

私が拾い上げ、袋に突っ込んで焼却処分にすればウイルスも油もなくなるだろう。でも、そうすることで貴重な餌資源を環境から奪うことになるかもしれない。私も、拾って運ぶことで何かの病気を媒介してしまうかもしれない。大量死でもないので、省庁にも通報しなかった。
いろいろなことを考え出せばきりがない。
The virus and oil will be lost if I pick up, pouch the corpse, and it makes it to the incineration disposal. However, it is likely to be going to deprive the environment of a valuable food resource in doing so. And I might also mediate the sickness of something. It did not inform the ministry because it was not a large amount of death either. It is limitless if I begins to think about a lot.

結局、海にそのまま置いてきた。港の蓮氷とシャーベット状に凍った海水に揉まれながら、死体は氷の下に潜っていった。
I just put it in the sea after all. The corpse sank with ice while suffering hardship in seawater frozen in the shape of lotus ice and the sherbet of the port.

…オホーツクに消ゆ。結局これを言いたかったんだ。

あまり写真はいじり過ぎないようにしているが、1:1を5:3.3に変形した。魚眼コンバージョンですでに変形受けているので、あまり抵抗はない気がする。
I did not process too much many photographs, but transformed 1:1 to 5:3.3. Because transformation has been already popular with fisheye conversion, the resistance feels like there not being it too much for me.

ジムグリは地味。
カタバミに完全に負けた。
Japanese forest rat snake is sober.
He is soberer according to the existence of the oxalis.

ジムグリは地味。カタバミに完全に負けた。
Japanese forest rat snake is sober. He is soberer according to the existence of the oxalis.

ジムグリは背景に溶け込み、その身を守る。カタバミは目立ち、虫に花粉を運んでほしい。目的が全く逆なのだから、当たり前といえば当たり前だ。
Japanese forest rat snake protects the body by assimilating into the background. The oxalis attracts the insect’s attention remarkably and wants the pollen to progress. Their purposes are quite different.

ジムグリは、小さく毒もない。目立たずに、生きていければそれでいい。
Japanese forest rat snake is small and not have venoms. It is good if he can make a living without being conspicuous.

同居人が死んだ。小さな同居人だった。たぶん東京から、ついてきてしまったんだと思う。
My roommate died. He was a small roommate. I think that he have come from Tokyo, maybe.

東京にいたころはよく、プロミナーにくっついて移動していた。人の荷物に紛れるのは、彼らにとって分布拡大のチャンスなのだと思う。だけど、札幌は彼が望む環境ではなかった。
I think that the chance of distribution expansion enters into person’s baggage for him.
However, Sapporo was not the environment which he hope. (It was too cold…)

札幌に来てからの同居人は、生きるのに必死だった。数少ない昆虫を狩り、暖かい場所に潜り込み、この冬を越して春には繁殖したかっただろう。
The roommate did his best to live. He hunted few insects. He crept in in the warm place. He spent winter and would want to breed in spring.

彼はつぶれて死んでいた。それほど必死に生に執着していない人間の寝床で。
He collapsed and was dead under “me”. I was  not desperately attached to the life too much…

俺、生きてていいのか？
He should have lived than me.

ごめんなさい。。。
I’m sorry…

Lonely Queen

スズメバチの仲間は、巣を次の年は利用しない。そして、女王1匹だけで越冬する。
The kind of the hornet does not use a nest in the next year.  And, the winter is passed as only queen.

どの群れも、1匹の女王からスタートする。ここから何万というファミリーを形成するというのは信じがたいことだ。
All crowds start from one Queen. Afterwards, It is that I do not believe easily that tens of thousands of crowds are formed with one queen.

このスズメバチの仲間は、小型で黒が基調。クロスズメバチ属のものと思ったが、ホオナガスズメバチ属も外見はほぼ同じだ。顔面のアップで属、そしてそれぞれの種が見極められる。
For this hornet kind, it is small and the black basic tone. I thought it to be a thing of the Vespula genus, but, as for the Dolichovespula genus, the appearance is about the same. In the form of the face, the genus is made sure of.

私には、そこまでして識別したいという欲と勇気はない。こんな引いた写真でも十分きれいな生き物だと思うから。
I do not have courage that it does and it wants to identify it there. Because I think even such a photograph which I pulled to be a creature beautiful enough.

※ホオナガスズメバチ属だと思ったのは、あまり意識して観察していなかったのだけど複眼と顎の間に距離を感じたからです。

Chaos

鮮やかな赤とシャープな黒の斑が入った、アカマダラ。
他に色彩を置かない場所で観察するとこの上なく美しい。
This snake has variegattions “bright red” and “sharp black”. It is the most beautiful when I observe it at the place where it does not put a color else.

しかし赤茶色の土、枯れた葉、漆黒の闇にまぎれると
その色彩は非常に混沌としたものになる。
However, the color becomes very chaotic when diverted to the dark of a soil of red brown, a withering leaf, and the lacquer black.

美麗なのに混沌。
Sense of values is such a thing. It is not necessary to persist so much.

2009年というこの1年、はたしてよい年になるだろうか。
同じ1年を迎えても、人によっては良い年であり、人によっては悪い年。
Does 2009 year become a good year? Everyone will spend different year of 2009 and no one knows it’ll a good year, not. It depends on each individual person.

混沌とした先の見えない1年のレースは今始まったばかりだ。
年始に良年を願っても、年末まで願い続けなければ
いつかは混沌にのみ込まれてしまうかもしれない。
Chaotic one year just started now. Even if you pray the beginning of the year for “Good year”, as for you, it may be crowded only in chaos someday… You had better always pray.

この鳥は可愛いと思いますか？ペンギンの顔をしたようなこの黒い鳥。
Do you think that this bird is lovely? This black bird that had penguin’s face.

この角度にすると小憎らしく見えますか？
Do you look hateful when making it this angling?

価値観なんてそんなもんだ。あまり固執する必要もない。
Sense of values is such a thing. It is not necessary to persist so much.

最初の写真でも憎らしく、あとの写真でも可愛らしく感じる人もいると思うけれど。
There is a person who feels that it is hateful also in the first photograph. There is a person who feels that it is lovely also in the following photograph.

だから自分の価値観を他の人に強要するのはトラブルのもとだと思うんだ。
Therefore it is the cause of the trouble to force one’s sense of values on other people.

冬。ようやくやってきた白銀の世界。私は雪とともにやってくる冬鳥の時期を待っていた。
Winter. The world of silvery white that came at last. I was waiting for the time of the winter bird that came with the snow.

春は両生類の産卵。夏は爬虫類の最盛期。秋は魚の遡上。冬は哺乳類や北極圏の鳥。
It is laying eggs of amphibians in spring. It is the golden season of reptiles in the summer. It is going up of the fish in autumn. It is a seal and a bird of the Arctic Circle in winter.

でも、私が撮りたいと思う生き物は、晩秋から初冬にかけてほとんどいない。緑の無くなった灰色の景色が、白銀の世界になるのを待ち焦がれる。
But there is almost no living thing I want to take a picture of from the late autumn to early winter. I long for that green lost gray scenery becomes the world of silver.

ベニヒワは冬とともにやってきた。私の好きな鳥の一つ。今年も私の気持ちを楽にしてくれた。
The redpoll came over with winter. The one of my favorite birds. It eased my feeling this year.

頭が矢印。舌も矢印。私の感じた第二印象。
The head is an arrow. The tongue is an arrow. Second impression that I felt.

頭の奥ゆかしいグラデーションのある灰青色。私の感じた第一印象。
The ash blue with graceful gradation of the head. The first impression that I felt.

君はきっと美しい色のアオダイショウになると思う。あくまで、人間から見た「美しい」だけれども。
I think that you become a surely beautiful color Japanese Rat Snake. Though it is “It is beautiful” seen from human.

写真を整理してみるとわかる。私は蛇の次にカナヘビの写真を撮ってるのが多い。
Understand when you arrange the photograph. There are my being taking Grass lizard’s photograph next to the snake a lot.

ゆるいんだよね。たぶんそこが好き。
Ｔｈｅｙ are peaceful. So I like them, may be.
