小型のサンショウウオひとつとっても、それぞれ人の好みがある。私は止水性のサンショウウオより、渓流性のサンショウウオのほうが好きだ。なんとなく、止水性サンショウウオのほうが顔がいかつい気がする。この写真は止水性サンショウウオのひとつ、エゾサンショウウオです。
What kind of small salamander do you like? I like mountain-stream salamanders better than still-water salamanders. A still-water salamander feels me somehow the face is stern. This photograph is ezo salamander that is one of the still-water salamanders.

同じエゾサンショウウオでも変異が大きい。真っ黒な奴。金のラメの入ったやつ。尾に黄色い線の入ってるやつ。紫っぽいやつ。顎が異様に張ってるやつ。
There are a lot of mutations in ezo salamander. Jet-black one.  Gold Lame one. Yellow line tail one. Purplish one.

動物を見るときは1つ見て満足するなかれ。たくさん見て、個性を見抜け。
You must not be satisfied that you watch only one of them when you watch an animal. Look a lot and see through personality.

あなたの好みの異性の顔があるように、嫌いな生き物でも、好みの顔がいるかもしれない。
You are sure to have the face of the opposite sex of the favor. The creature that thinks that you are hated might have the face of the favor.

残念ながら、結婚してもいいほどの好みのエゾサンショウウオには
出会えていない。この個体は、鑑賞して楽しむくらいの好み。
Unfortunately I cannot come across favorite ezo salamander as I may marry. Preference so as I appreciate this individual, and to enjoy it.

ぱっと見て、並びがきれいだと思った。まるで雪の結晶が敷き詰められているかのような。
I thought seeing this, and spreading beautifully. It seemed to have spread the snow crystal.

ちょうど、成長段階が良かったようで絨毯のように広がっていた。
Stages of growth were good and it was wide as carpet just.

何か、強く惹きつけられて撮っていた。
It was used to strongly attract me and took it.

サンショウウオの生態写真をきれいに撮るのは非常に難しい。
It is very difficult to take salamander’s habits photograph beautifully.

サンショウウオは夜行性のうえ隠遁性が強い。そして見られる時期（産卵期）はほとんど水の中、泥の中。
The salamander is nocturnal, and has seclusion characteristics. And time (the breeding season) to be seen with them, most of them in water  and in mud.

フラッシュを焚かず、昼間に撮れるサンショウウオの生態写真は、卵嚢に群がるオスが関の山。
The habits photograph of the salamander that can take it in daytime is a male that crowds the egg capsule.

この個体は、水底の泥の中から掬いだしたオス。写真を撮ってリリースするとほとんどの個体が身近にある物の下にもぐる。この個体はたまたま沢伝いに下流に向かって歩いた。身に接するものが無いせいか、非常に落ち着かない表情に見える。
「早く隠れたい！」
This individual is a male that scooped it from in mud in the bottom of the water. When I took this photograph and released him, he went downstream along a swamp and walked. Most individuals crawl into an imminent thing. The expression that is not settled down very much shows it probably because there is not a thing close against the body. “I want to hide early and early !”

冷水に来るようなサンショウウオを手で持っていると弱る。触るときは手を冷水に漬けたりしながら温度を抑える。手が冷たくて痛くて、撮影を止めることも多い。
When we have salamanders by hand, they weaken. I lower the temperature while soaking a hand in cold water when I touch it. Since a hand is cold and hurts, I stop photography on the way in many cases.

クロガモはほとんどの場合、海に浮いて生活する。彼は何かの事故にあったようだ。脚を怪我し、羽を動かすこともなかった。
The scoter floats on the sea in case of almost and lives. He seem to have been in the accident of something. He injured the leg, and did not move his wing.

この無防備では、おそらく長くは持たない。
この命が失われることで、
餌となる海の小動物は死を免れ、
あるものは食料にありつき命をつなぐ。
In defenseless of this, he will die soon. Because his life is lost, the small animal of the sea becoming the bait avoids death and the big animal which there is gets food and lives a long life for life.

私は、必要以上の命を殺したくない。
私は、必要以上に命をつなぐことはしたくない。
I do not want to kill the life more than the necessity. I do not want to save the life more than the necessity.

必要以上はいつか歪みを形成する。
The necessary above forms a distortion sometime.

気付かれていない。奇跡だ！
I am not noticed by him. It is miraculous!

今までずっと蛇を追っているけど、相手に悟られず撮れた写真は2枚だけ。
I take the photograph of the snake in all this while. But only two pieces of photographs which came out without it being realized.

アメリカから客人が来て、北海道のフクロウが見たいということで、見ることができそうな場所で観察しに行ってきた。あまりこういった人が集まる場所では写真は撮らないのだが、奇妙な足をしたフクロウだったので写真を撮った。
The man came from the United States. Because he wanted to see the owl in Hokkaido, I guided him to the place where it seemed to be able to see the owl. I took the photograph because there was an owl that had a strange foot though I did not take the photograph in the place in which the person gathered too much.

怪我をしているから脚を「うろ」から投げ出しているんだろうか？それとも脚回りの腫瘍なのだろうか。とても気になるものだった。結局、彼はずっとその脚を動かすことはなかった。
Because he injures a leg, does the hollow put out a leg? Or will there be a tumor in his leg circumference? I was worried about it to me very much. He did not move the leg all the time after all.

家に戻って、拡大してみてわかった。小動物をがっちり持っていた。この毛色と大きさからして、エゾモモンガで間違いなさそうだ。しかも、睾丸があるのでオス。上半身はすでに食べられていたようだ。
I came back to the house and I enlarged a photograph and understood. The owl held a small animal solidly. Judging from a hair color and size, the small animal seems to be reliable in Russian Flying Squirrel. Because there are the testicles, it is male. The upper part of a body of the flying squirrel seems to have been already edible.

アメリカ人から聞いたが、フクロウの仲間は食べきれなかった獲物を手元にキープすることがあるという。この個体も夜のうちに狩ったエゾモモンガをキープしているのでは…ということだった。実に興味深い時に、エゾフクロウを確認していたのをアメリカ人と語り合った。
I heard it from an American, but it is said that the kind of the owl stocks the flying squirrel which was not able to eat at hand. This owl may have stocked the flying squirrel which he hunted during night. When I was really interesting, I showed that I confirmed an owl with an American.

春が待ち遠しいです。
I want it to be spring early.

私も緑の世界に飛び出したい。
I want also to fly out to the green world.

この写真は、だいぶ前に友人にレンズをお借りして撮らせてもらったものです。正味1600mmの焦点距離でこの明るさには驚嘆しました。

野生のゴマフアザラシは、警戒心がやや低い。海の獣全般的に言えるが、意外と人間を怖がらず、好奇心でこちらを観察することも多い。
Wild Spotted seals are not cautious. Although it can say to marine mammals whole target, they are not unexpectedly afraid of man. Rather, they observe man by curiosity in many cases.

リラックスしているゴマフアザラシを見ていると、寝ているようで意外と動き回っている。しかし、陸上では間抜けな動きが多い。この個体は、ひげを水の中に入れたまましばらく寝てしまったのだろう。ひげに氷の塊がくっついてしまって邪魔そうだ。
When I watch a harbor seal, they are relaxed and seem to sleep, but move unexpectedly. However, they have much foolish movement in the land. This individual might slept for a while with the mustache put in water. A lump of the ice sticks to the mustache and seems to be obstructive.

邪魔ものが取れた後は、またゆっくりくつろぎだす。しかし、周りの音や動きには敏感に反応し、首をもたげる。呑気なようでいて、やはり野生動物なりの警戒心を持ってはいるようだ。
He begins to make himself at home slowly again after an obstacle was removed. However, he reacts to a sound and the movement of the circumference sensitively and raises a neck. It seems that he is so that he may be easy, and he has the wariness of a wild animal too.

つまり、アザラシは人間が海に飛び込んでまで襲ってこないことを知っていて、至近距離ながらも、自分たち有利な間合いを知っているのだ。
In other words the seal knows that we do not attack it a human being jumping into the sea. And he know oneself advantageous distance even if they are close range with us.

Footprint

雪の中をさまよう足跡は多い。しかし、さまよう動物を見る機会は多くない。
There are a lot of footprints to which it wanders in the snow.  However, there are not a lot of chances to see the wandering animal.

図鑑や本で、「このような足跡」はキツネのもの、として縦に1列に並んだ足跡が表記されている。
According to pictorial books, footprints by a fox leaves trail as a row of beautiful line perpendicularly like the line in this picture above.

キツネが普通に歩くと、縦1列の足跡になるのは正しい。よって表記されていることは正しい。しかし読む側はそれを鵜呑みにし過ぎてはいけない。
When a fox walks ordinarily, it is right to become an one-row-long footprint. Therefore, being written is right. However, the side to read must not accept it without question too much.

縦1列でない足跡だから、キツネではないというのは正しくない。写真の個体は2列付けて歩いている。
“The footprint which is not one row long is not a footprint of a fox” is not right. The individual of a photograph leaves the footprint of two rows and is walking.

私たちの足跡は左右交互だ。だけど、お酒に酔ったら、何かに気を取られていたら、証拠を残さないように意識して歩いたら、左右交互でない足跡を残すこともあるってこと。
Our footprint is right and left alternation. But there can be the thing that we leave a few footprint by right and left alternation. When we drank Alcohol. When we were preoccupied with something. When we were conscious not to leave evidence.
