Metamorphose

陸に早く上がりたかった。
だけど、陸の上は完全な自由ではなかった。
陸の上で兄弟は干からびた。
They wanted to go ashore early. But the land was not the freedom that was complete for them. Their brothers dried up on the land.

水の中に居たかった。
だけど、体が変わって水の中にいられなかった。
水の中で兄弟は溺れ死んだ。
They wanted to stay in water all the time. But they metamorphosed, and there was not able to be it in water. Their brothers were drowned in water and died.

「両生類」は陸でも水でも両方棲めるということ。
だけど、陸も水も無ければ生きていけないということ。
“Amphibians” are meanings living in the both environment in Japanese. They can live on both the water and the land. But they cannot live if there is neither the land nor the water.

Face

小型サンショウウオの顔は愛らしい。特に渓流性のサンショウウオ（ヒガシヒダサンショウウオ、ハコネサンショウウオ）。
The face of the small salamander is lovely.  Especially, stream in particular-related salamander is more lovely.
(East Hida salamander, Japanese Clawed Salamander).

肉食動物という獰猛な生態は別として、その顔の作りはカエルにも勝るとも個人的には思う。
Because it is a flesh-eating animal, the salamander is ferocious. However, I think the face to be prettier than the frog personally.

エゾサンショウウオではなかなかその愛らしい顔を撮れなかったのだが、ようやくステキな角度で撮れた。
I was not able to take a face like the love of Ezo salamander, but was able to finally take it at a wonderful angle.

でも私がサンショウウオが好きなのは、その”流線型”であるところ。
But the reason why I like salamanders is because they are “streamlined”.

魚みたいだよね。サンショウ「ウオ」。
It seems to be a fish. We (Japanese people) call them “Sansyo-uo”, it means the fish which smell like the Japanese pepper.

“Streamline” が好きです。
The “Streamline” is good.

Whirl

光と水と山椒魚と泥の渦。
The whirl of the light, water, salamander eggs and the mud.

渦の中で成長し、生まれてくる命の渦。
The life grows up in a whirl and is born.

場所をとらずコンパクトでありながら、表面積が大きく、水から酸素を貰い易い。
The shape that the whirl is compact. But surface area is big, and the egg case is easy to get oxygen from water.

渦は素晴らしい。
The whirl is great.

Obstacle II

私はキタサンショウウオを撮影にし行った。
世界的には広い分布をする種類だけど日本では釧路湿原にしかしない。
生息地の状況や、サンショウウオの生態を考えると
繁殖期の今でないと撮影するのは難しい。
I went to take the photo of Siberian Salamander. Siberian salamander is distributed widely worldwide. But in Japan, they live only Kushiro dump plain. It is difficlut for me to take the photo of them except spring. Because salamander is not active except in the breeding season. And because Kushiro dump plain is protected by some laws.

キタサンショウウオだけを対象と考えて撮影に臨んだが、
あまりの邪魔ものの多さに閉口しかけた。
大量のボウフラ、まとわりつく蚊。
水面に浮かぶ小さな巻貝、コミズムシ、泡、反射光、植物…。
I was weary of many obstacles. Mosquito, mosquito larva, little snails, boat mans (insect), bubbles, plants, reflected light…etc.

最後にはクモまで現れて、サンショウウオの上で宴会を始める始末。
Finally, spiders appeared and began a banquet on the salamander.

あまりの多さに、私はイライラするどころか、邪魔者に興味すら抱いた。
そしてふと考えると、彼らにとって私が一番の邪魔ものだと言う事に気が付いた。
I was interested in them. Therefore I was not irritated. And I noticed that I was the obstacle for them, too.

Anxiety

Welcome.

生きていれば、何をするにも不安はつきまとうだろう。
不安が解消すれば、次の不安に怯えるだろう。
If you live, you will be haunted by the anxiety to do what anytime. If anxiety dissolves, you will be frightened by the next anxiety.

めくるめく不安の数だけ安堵を味わうことが出来るだろう。
If you live, time when you are relieved will come. There is a number same as dazzling uneasiness for the relief.

It’s not outstanding.

フキノトウは、フキの花。雄株には小さな小さな花が咲く。
“Fuki-no-tou” is the flower of butter-bur. A small flower blooms.

目立たない花だね。
あんなに存在感がある植物なのに。
Though the butterbur is a plant outstanding that much, the flower is not outstanding.

フキは花を目立たせることにメリットを求めていないのだろう。
だからきっと、それでいいんだ。
They don’t feel a good point in letting a flower be outstanding. Therefore thus it is good.

Impression II

オジロワシに私たちが感じるもの。
大きさ、力強さに圧倒される。
The White-tailed eagle give us the impression that is large and strong.

近くで見れば、ほとんどの人が圧倒される。
The almost people are surprised by the great existence.

ゴマフアザラシでさえも圧倒され、つい振り向いてしまう。
Even the adult Spotted seal (Phoca largha) is surprised by the size of White-tailed eagle, and look back his shoulder.

たった1匹、氷上に立つ孤高のカモメ。なんと逞しいことだろう。
This gull stayed aloof from others. How sturdy he was!

キスではなく、ちいさな魚が目的。
どちらにしても情熱的に奪い合う。
Their purpose was eating a little fish, but was not kiss. In either case, it was very passionate.

…野生動物を人間を照らし合わせて表現するのは、面白いこと。
It is interesting that we compare wild animals to humans.

動物は人間にない素晴らしい能力を持っている。
Animals have splendid ability which is not had humans.

あなたはゴキブリのように俊敏だね。
あなた達はハイエナのように良いチームワークだね。
あなたはウジ虫のように適応能力が高いね。
“You are quick like a cockroach.”
“You have good team work like hyenas.”
“You can adapt to bad environment like a maggot.”

これは褒め言葉。
良く感じるか、悪く感じるかはあなたがその動物に持つイメージによる。
These sentence is the word of praise. Do you have good atmosphere or bad atmosphere? The atmosphere which you have is felt by your feeling for the animals.

動物が会話をしていた。
「あなたは人間のように◯◯だね」。
Wild animals talked about themselves. “You are xxxxx like humans!”

彼らにとって、それは褒め言葉だろうか。
For them, will it be praise?

私たちは「褒めている」に違いないと自信を持てるだろうか？
May we think that “the animal must praise us?”

The water

雪からでも、植物からでも水は摂ることが出来るかも知れない。
でもやはり水は水として飲みたいようだ。
They may consume the water even from snow or a plant. But after all they seem to want to drink the water as water; not as snow and ice etc…

極寒の地でも凍ることがない湧き水にエゾシカが集まっていた。
They came the stream. That stream was not freeze because it was little hot fountain.

カラスは身近な鳥です。町にたむろし、畑にたむろする。
ゴミも漁るし、イタズラもひどいことがある。
とても賢い（人間にとっては悪い意味で）鳥である。
人間が嫌う要素がたくさんある。
The crow is the bird which is common for us. They hang around the town and a field.
They forage garbage and do the terrible mischief. They are clever birds; We think they are sly birds. There are a lot of elements that human dislike them.

しかし、人間には媚びていない。
むしろ敵視したり、人間を利用しさえしている。
However, they do not flatter human. Rather they regard a human with hostility, and use human life.

こんなに近くにいるのに、カメラ向けると素早く逃げるんだ。
そしてすごくこちらを警戒するから、あんまり面白い写真撮れない。
Even if there are them near me, they escape quickly when I take out a camera. And I cannot take a too interesting photograph because they are cautious very much.

私はこの鳥が嫌いなところもあるけど、概ね好きな鳥です。
好き、というより興味を惹きつけられると言うのが正確かな。
生きものとして、とても面白い。
I sometimes think them to be unpleasant, but am almost good. I think that they are interesting creatures.
